Von Balthasar knew the early church fathers very well.  He even memorized the smallest details!  Once he was reading a manuscript by another scholar by writing all the time HL (+ number) and HG (+ number) behind the lines = Hagiographica Latina et Hagiographica Graeca!  Von Balthasar also mentioned that no Christian should wish that there's a hell!
