I think Von Balthasar has his good points and thoughts but is sort of out of the mainstream if he mentioned that no Christian should wish that there is a hell. Are you familiar with the prayer that ends like this -...do thou O prince of the heavenly host by the divine power of G_d cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who roam throughout the world seeking ruin of souls. This is the prayer to St. Michael the Archangel. Of course if you think there is no Satan or evil spirits, it would not be a prayer of choice.

Of course Von Balthasar is no doubt thinking of mainly the possibility of the horror of any human person going to Hell and he hopes no one is in such a position which would be most possible if there were no Hell and surely as Christians we would wish no one such a fate and so wish there would be no Hell for this reason.
