Lately I've been reading books on scriptural research by theologians

Raymond Brown, John Meier, and John Crossan. I find as common thread of bad example whereby each of them lapses into harangues against the Church, mainly by criticizing those responsible for teaching the faith - the Bishops. Also, they also lapse into preaching their personnel ideologies and into fighting battles against supposed affronts or disagreements they have received from named individuals. Now, all this would be okay with me and appropriate in certain circumstances, but I find it offensive in a "scholarly" book and I question the publishers who even allow this. Anyone else notice this?
